Electric Vehicle Conversion

Electric vehicle conversion is something just about anyone can learn how to do. Working on a gas engine is far more complicated. All you need to get started are some simple tools you probably already have. You will most likely want some shop or garage space, although you could do it outdoors.

You  need a vehicle to do the conversion on. Since it takes some time to do this you probably wont use your regular car first off, but later you may want to convert it too. Electric motors and batteries are heavy so a helper would be nice to have. Most importantly you will need a detailed set of plans for your electric vehicle conversion.

Finding the right vehicle is not that hard and just about any small car or truck is a good candidate for your EV conversion as long as it has a standard transmission. Using small trucks is a great idea. Small trucks are light, strong and have lots of room for batteries in the frame or in the box. Electric vehicle conversion doesn’t really require any special tools or skills to speak of.

Now, I don’t know about you but I’m not an auto mechanic.  We really wanted to learn how to do our own electric vehicle conversion. We found out that many people with no mechanical experience at all have done their own electric vehicle conversion. It was a bit of work, but it was manageable. Actually the hardest part was taking out the old gas engine. But we found that actually building it definitely wasn’t rocket science and our detailed  EV car plans made it pretty easy.

We also saved a lot of money too by using the sources listed in the plans to find free DC motors and even free reconditioned batteries for our vehicle. Since these are the two most expensive items it was good to know how to get them cheaply. If we bought everything new it would have added a lot to the cost. Turns out we only spent a few hundred dollars on our electric vehicle conversion including the cost of the plans. It would cost a lot more to fix our old gas engine than to convert to electric.

There is really very low maintenance costs with electric vehicle conversions too. Very few moving parts and simpler systems mean that it doesn’t break down as often. There’s no more expensive tune ups, no more muffler repairs or oil changes either. But best of all there’s no more gas to buy. Electric motors will go hundreds of thousands of miles and all you really need to do is change the brushes every 80 to 100,000 miles. Compare that to maintaining a regular vehicle. Your motor will still be running when your car rusts to the ground.

Our electric vehicle  conversion(1997 Toyota Tacoma) can go 50 mph on the highway and has a range between charges of over 200 miles. It takes us where we want to go just like our old car. But there are no toxic fumes, and driving by gas stations is really a great feeling. We all know that gas prices are going to rise again. This time they could go as high as $7 according to some analysts. But you wont care.  You will sure be glad you learned about electric vehicle conversion and built your own EV car then.

Isn’t it time you got started on your own conversion? Get started now before gas prices go through the roof. The big oil companies are rich enough and really don’t need any help from you. Just think about what you could do with all the money you will save. So don’t put it off. Start with your own electric vehicle conversion now!
